JOHOR BARU: The state Customs Department seized RM1.23 million worth of liquor in four containers, which were falsely declared at the Pasir Gudang Port.
Department deputy director Abu Hanipah Abdul Rahman said an enforcement division team recovered almost 45,000 bottles of the liquor while checking the four containers held at the port’s Customs Inspection Bay about 5.30pm. “Checks were conducted in front of the shipping company’s representative and the team found that all four containers had various liquor comprising whiskey. “Investigations revealed that the importer’s premises which was stated in the Inward Manifest registered to the Free Zone Authority, did not exist.
“All four containers were seized and taken to the Customs Enforcement Store in Johor Baru for further investigations,” said Abu Hanipah in a press conference at the state Customs Department headquarters. No arrests have been made in the case. Abu Hanipah said the team seized a total of 44,929 bottles of liquor worth RM1.23 million, which had RM3.66 million in estimated import duty. The case is being investigated under Section 133(1)(a) of the Customs Act 1967 for false declaration of items.
