KUALA LUMPUR: Two Padang Besar Customs enforcement officers were injured while another is in coma when the vehicle they were in was hit by a car early this morning.
The officers were pursuing a pick-up with a Thai registration number, laden with beers which evaded duty when a black Proton Perdana, believed to be driven by a tonto, hit their Honda Odyssey from behind at KM20, Jalan Padang Besar-Kangar at 4.15am. According to state Customs Department director Kamaruddin Jaafar, the Honda Odyssey lost control and swerved before crashing into a bus stop by the roadside.
The officer on the front passenger seat, Mat Zohir Mohd Saad, 47, and the officer in the back seat, Mohd Safawi Rosdi, 27, was thrown off the vehicle following the impact of the crash. Safawi suffered serious injuries and is in a coma while Zohir sustained serious head injuries. Abdullah Ayob, 46, who was behind the wheel escaped the crush with minor injuries on his back, chest and cheek.
