TOOWOOMBA: The first phase of a multi-million-dollar freight hub has been lodged with Toowoomba Regional Council for approval. will be a 200ha estate with its own customs office, manufacturing facilities and the ability to transfer road freight directly to rail.
The $235m transport hub will be located next to the Western Rail route, slated for major upgrades linking Melbourne to the Port of Brisbane via Charlton.
Freight Terminals lodged a development application with Toowoomba Regional Council this week for the first phase of the project. It relates to the hub’s terminal, which will provide the infrastructure needed to transfer freight directly to rail.
Interlink SQ chief executive officer Michelle Reynolds said the development application was submitted after strong interest in the project at last month’s Toowoomba Transport and Logistics Symposium.
“At the symposium we dispelled some of the myths around this line and acknowledged it is something that can be used and that rail is an attractive form of transport for freight if linked with road in the right way,” she said.
