CHITTAGONG: Customs officials have seized more than 6.8 million Indian rupees at Chittagong’s Shah Amanat International Airport.
Assistant Commissioner of Customs Abdul Kasem said the currencies were found inside a carton at the airport’s cargo zone at around 1.30pm on Tuesday.
He told media the recovery was made during a routine patrol in the cargo area.
“The currencies were concealed in four smaller cartons placed inside a bigger carton. Most of the notes were of hundred denominations. But all the bundles did not contain same number of notes,” he said.
Officials of Customs and Customs Intelligence on the night of Sep 20 had also seized over 27.1 million rupees, kept inside four cartons within a container in Chittagong Port’s yard number 8.
