Initiated projects to produce surplus energy in future: Nawaz

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif Wednesday said the projects started by the government would produce surplus energy in future, which would also overcome the energy crisis in the country.

Chairing a high level meeting of Cabinet Committee on Energy here at the PM House, to review progress of energy sector projects, the Prime Minister directed to enhance inter-ministerial coordination for early completion of the projects. “Transparency and adherence to relevant laws and rules must be given top priority in all these projects,” he said.

The Prime Minister was briefed on the status of various energy sector projects, especially those under the umbrella of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Expressing confidence on the progress made on energy projects, the Prime Minister directed that quality and standard must not be comprised at any cost.

The Prime Minister was informed that apart from speedy work on the energy related projects, work on establishing transmission lines was also underway for effective distribution upon completion of these projects.

An official of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources briefed the Prime Minister on import and subsequent provision of Liquified Natural Gas to the power sector.

The Prime Minister said China was a great friend and has tremendously justified the time-tested friendship by heavily investing in Pakistan, especially in the energy projects. He expressed optimism that China’s assistance would resolve the most important issue of energy deficiency in the country.

The Prime Minister said the initiatives taken by the present Government would not only overcome the shortage of energy in the country, but would produce surplus energy in the times to come.

The meeting was attended by Finance Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Minister for Petroleum & Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Minister for Planning & Development Ahsan Iqbal, Minister for Water & Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Special Assistant to PM Tariq Fatemi, Secretary Finance Division, Dr. Waqar Masood Khan, Secretary Petroleum & Natural Resources Division Arshad Mirza, Secretary Water & Power Division Muhammad Younus Dhaga and senior officers of PM Office.
