HAVANA: Around 570 foreign firms from more than 70 countries will attend Cuba’s most important trade event, the 33rd Havana International Fair, or Fihav 2015, from Nov. 2-7 at ExpoCuba, the nation’s biggest exhibition center located on the outskirts of Havana.
With the highest participation in the last decade, around 900 companies in total, and more than 30 delegations, many of them led by ministers, the exhibition area of the fair will cover nearly 20,500 square meters, 2,000 more than the previous occasion, the Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment and President of the Organizing Committee, Rodrigo Malmierca, said on Monday.
Among foreign firms, the organizers said Spain will again occupy the most space in the fair, while Panama, Venezuela and Brazil show the highest increase in participation.
Five countries, including the UAE and Kuwait, will attend for the first time.
Fihav 2015 will promote products that make up the Cuban export portfolio, including professional and technical services, representing 70 percent of the island nation’s foreign sales, and a main source of the country’s income.
An updated portfolio of business opportunities will also be unveiled at the fair to show investment guarantees offered by Cuba, including projects geared towards generating production lines, besides opportunities in sectors, which had lesser emphasis in the previous version, reported the state National Information Agency.
The last edition offered 246 projects to foreign investors for reviving the island’s economy, totaling an estimated $8.7 billion investment across sectors, including energy, tourism, agro-foods and industry.
Besides product exhibition, the fair will also include meetings with Cuba’s main trade partners, and a presentation of integral projects for export of goods and services.
