TOKYO: Tokyo stocks rose on Friday morning as investor sentiment was boosted by steep gains in U.S. stocks overnight following positive labor market data and amid an improved outlook on the Chinese economy.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 246.41 points, or 1.36 percent, from Thursday to end the morning at 18,343.31. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 19.99 points, or 1.34 percent, to 1,510.71.
