8 arrested in drugs smuggling in Algiers

ALGIERS: Eight smugglers have been arrested and a quantity of products for smuggling were seized in an operation conducted by the People’s National Army in the south of the country, said the National Defence Ministry.

” As part of securing borders and fighting organized crime, two detachments coming under the operational sectors of Bordj Badji Mokhtar and Tamanrasset (6th military region) arrested, on 15-16 October 2015, seven (07) Algerian smugglers and seized one (01) lorry, two (02) all-terrain vehicles, 2,040 litres of fuel, nine (09) metal detectors and 1.250 kg of drug,” said the source.

“A detachment of the People’s National Army coming under the operational sector of El Oued (4th military region) arrested, on 16 October 2015, in a combing operation near the zone of Djamaa, one (01) smuggler and seized 1,224 bottles of various beverages,” said the source.

“At the level of the 5th military region, the units of the National Gendarmerie of Batna arrested, on 15 October 2015, two people possessing traditional weapons, cartridge filling apparatus and other objects.”
