Turkey exports 55,856 tons of dried figs in 2014-15

ANKARA:Turkey realised 55,856 tons of dried fig exports in the 2014-2015 season. According to a statement from the Aegean Exporters’ Associations (EIB), Turkey has completed the 2014/15 season of dried fig exports as the world leader in production.

According to this, in the 15 October 2014 – 1 October 2015 season, 55,856 tons of dried figs were exported to 91 countries and a revenue of $243 million was achieved.

France took first place as the country to which most dried figs were exported. To France, $39,321 millions worth of dried fig exports were made, amounting to 8,288 tons. Germany took second place with $36,915 millions worth of exports, weighing 7,139 tons.

Out of the Dried Fruits Promotion Groups’ target market, the Far East, most dried fruit exports were made to Japan. 1,245 tons of dried figs were sent to Japan, to the values of $9,107 million dollars, this country was followed by Vietnam with $6,680 million of exports.

Birol Celep, chairman of the Dried Fruits and Products Exporters’ Union, stated that unfavourable weather conditions in the 2014/15 season, caused a drop in quality and subsequent export figures.

According to the EIB, dried fig exports for the previous season amounted to 76,901 tons.
