KARACHI: Chief Collector Enforcement-South Zahid Khokhar stated that Pakistan Customs will put on auction the seized donkey hides after the settlement of the case.

According to Zahid Khokhar, Model Customs Collectorate Exports foiled a bid to smuggle 1,200 donkey hides to Hong Kong. The hides were being exported through mis-declaration by the exporter despite the fact that the FBR had already imposed a ban on the export of donkey hides.

Zahid Khokhar added that more than Rs 8 billion worth donkey-hides have so far been exported to different countries from Pakistan since January 2014 till its ban in the recent past by the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC).

The major markets for Pakistan’s donkey-hides are China, Hong Kong and Vietnam that did business of Rs 8 billion with the exporters. And, after scandals like the donkey-meat was sold out into Pakistani markets, the authorities were left with no option but to impose ban on the export of donkey-hides, he said.
