Customs Court imposes fine as suspect pleads guilty in currency smuggling case

KARACHI: The Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling imposed a fine of Rs 200, 000 on a suspect after he pleaded guilty to smuggling over $30,000 out of country.

Ghulam Mehdi Karani was caught with 112,500 Saudi Riyals at the Jinnah International Airport on August 29, 2015. The accused was about to fly carrying the money without declaring it. Subsequently, he was taken into custody and an FIR was registered against him under the customs laws.
