ABU DHABI: The Naturalisation and Residency prosecution of Al Ain jailed an Omani national and a Bangladeshi woman for 7 days, pending investigation, on charges of violating laws of residency and entering the UAE illegally. The Hili port customs officials arrested the woman when the Omani attempted to smuggle her into the country through Al Hili port, claiming that she was his wife, using a valid Gulf passport, with a name of another person.

The investigations proved that the woman entered Oman three months before on a working visa, where she worked with an Asian woman in the flesh trade. She reportedly planned with her to enter the UAE, through the Omani national, who accepted to take her.

The suspect took her from Al Buraimi area to Al Ain. When they crossed the border port, he presented his identity card and passport of his Arab wife, pretending that she was the woman in his company.

When officials checked the woman status, they found that she was an Asian and not the owner of the passport.

On being questioned, the woman confessed to the charges, adding that she was residing in the UAE before but was deported twice in 2007 and 2015, on charges of staying in the country illegally, and breaching public morality. It also turned out that she was permanently banned from entering the country.

The Omani suspect also confessed to the charges, saying that he agreed with a Bangladeshi man to help smuggle the woman into the UAE for 50 Omani riyal. The Omani’s car was impounded.
