KARACHI: A meeting of the regional committee was held at the Regional Tax Office, Karachi under the chairmanship of Hafiz Muhammad Ali Indhar, Convener/Chief Commissioner Inland Revenue, Regional Tax Office, Karachi, to improve coordination between regional offices of the FBR and business community and and to educate the taxpayers.
This meeting was held in the light of FBR’s notification dated October 20, 2015 which aims at establishing liaison between the traders at regional level and the “communication, Income Tax and sales tax committees” at the FBR level.
All the eight members of Regional Committee, representing the trade community of Karachi, Jameel Paracha, Kashif Sabrani, Saleem Memon, Rizwan Irfan, Muhammad Arshad, Abdul Rehman, Ismail Lalpura, and Saleem Rajput attended the meeting. Zulfiqar Ali Syed, Additional Commissioner (HQS) and Mr Abdul Nabi Soomro, Staff Officer-I also attended.
The Chief Commissioner, RTO, Karachi, reiterated that the FBR wants to work in close coordination with the business community and address the problems being faced by them at operational levels on priority basis.
He also informed the members that seminars will also be organized to educate the taxpayers about recent amendments and computer system to highlight the benefits of tax compliance. The Chief Commissioner, RTO, Karachi requested the trader community to file their tax returns and become filer to comply the tax laws and save 0.3% additional withholding tax.
Members of the Committee assured the Chief Commissioner for best possible cooperation from the business community and said that they would use their good offices for tax compliance in general and filing of returns in particular.
Members requested for extension of time up to November 30, 2015 to file Income Tax returns for 2015 and also recommended that turnover requirement for registration under Sales Tax Act, 1990 may be increased from Rs 5 million to 15 million.
The Chief Commissioner told members that both their requests will be communicated to the Board for necessary instructions. He also ensured the members that such meetings will be held on regular basis so that the desired results are achieved.
