Malaysia police arrest eight Iranians with 10kg of syabu

KUALA LUMPUR: Police smashed a foreign drug syndicate comprising of eight Iranian men and seized 10kg of syabu worth RM1.5 million, yesterday.

The suspects, aged between 23 and 47 years old, were nabbed at seven different locations around Klang Valley, including in Dang Wangi, Sri Hartamas, Kepong, Bandar Kinrara and Seri Kembangan in Selangor.

Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department director Commisioner Datuk Seri Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said their illegal activities were foiled through seven raids launched yesterday following extensive surveillance on the syndicate’s activities.

“The raids were conducted by the Bukit Aman’s narcotics department and the Special Tactical Intelligence Narcotics Group (STING) from 4pm to 11.25pm yesterday.” he said. “We have stopped and searched four cars including Volkswagen Polo, Toyota, Perodua Alza and Perodua Myvi, and we found the drugs, equipments and some chemicals believed to be processed into drugs.

” Following the raid, police have also confiscated a Honda Air Blade bike, a piece of Western watch, and a stack of RM9,830 in cash. “The drugs were believed to be for local consumption around Selangor and KL,” he told a press conference at federal police headquarters in Bukit Aman, today.

The suspects have been remanded and will be investigated under Section 39 (B) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. Meanwhile, Mokhtar said, 151,448 people have been arrested pertaining the drug cases between Jan 1 to Oct 25 this year.

Of the figure, 5,793 were foreigners. While drugs seized included syabu (1,372kg); ketamine (47.88kg); ecstasy (397,850 pieces); yaba (498,725 pieces); Erimin 5 (1,978,661 pieces); as well as ganja (1,661.47kg) and heroine (693.17kg). “All the drugs seized between this range of months worth RM216 million,” he said. ​
