TOKYO: Tokyo stocks rose Wednesday morning as upbeat earnings reports drove buying in some sectors, although gains were capped amid a wait-and-see mood ahead of a U.S. monetary policy decision due later in the day.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 113.17 points, or 0.60 percent, from Tuesday to end the morning at 18,890.21. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 3.07 points, or 0.20 percent, at 1,546.18.
Gainers were led by pharmaceuticals, information and communication, and air transport issues.
