NEW YORK: It was a long time coming, but Bandai Namco have officially announced “Tekken 7” for the PlayStation 4, after a lengthy stay in arcade machines. The timing couldn’t have been better, as the “Tekken” franchise celebrate its 20th anniversary soon and what better way to celebrate, than with a new installment in the series.

As part of the game’s 20th anniversary, the PlayStation Blog revealed that “Tekken 7” would go back to its roots by continuing the seemingly eternal storyline about the Mishima Clan, while also introducing a new character in Kazumi Mishima. It seems like the battle is not just between father and son anymore, but husband and wife as well.

Interestingly enough, the development team has promised that “Tekken 7” would be the conclusion of the long-running Mishima storyline. Considering how every “Tekken” game has been about the Mishima feud, this is an interesting development.

While staying true to the game’s roots is important, the official press release from Bandai Namco also revealed a number of new details for the game. “Tekken 7” will run on the acclaimed Unreal 4 engine, which will enhance the graphics of the game, allowing for more detailed character models and more interesting environments.

New characters will also be coming to “Tekken 7,” as Bandai Namco has confirmed that Claudio, Josie, Lucky Chloe, Shaheen, Katarina and Gigas will be part of the game’s home release. In addition to these characters, there will be new characters that will be exclusive to the home console version, though no clues have been given as to who they might be.

The game will also feature “numerous modes and enhancements,” which will supposedly make the game superior to its arcade counterpart. New modes for the game are expected, since the console versions of fighting games need more variety than their arcade counterparts.
