Power tariffs reduced by Rs2.60/unit

ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has reduced electricity tariffs by Rs 2.60 per unit.

Nepra Chairman Tariq Sadozzai, in a statement, said that the price reduction has been announced in the wake of fuel adjustment price for September 2015. Due to decreased prices of furnace oil the cheaper electricity was produced however the customers were charged at the same rate this September.

The electricity supplying companies collected an extra amount of Rs 2500 billion which will return to users in January 2016.

Meanwhile, the Nepra has also approved Rs 0.85 price cut per unit in power tariff for K-Electric customers. The reduction has come in as fuel adjustment for the month of August.

K-Electric chairman had forwarded a plea seeking cut in price to Nepra. A meeting chaired by Nepra Chairman Tariq Sadozzai took the decision. The authorities said that the relief would be granted to the people in November billings. The Karachi electricity company had saved at least Rs 1.31 billion in August.
