DHAKA: The South Bengal Frontier of the Border Security Force have apprehended five persons, including four Bangladeshi nationals, allegedly involved in cattle smuggling.
“Preliminary investigation has revealed that all the apprehended persons are connected with cattle and hemp (high-growing variety of cannabis) smuggling on the Indo-Bangladesh border. They have illegally entered India and were making plans for smuggling,” a senior BSF officer said.
The arrests were carried out on Tuesday night from Hudapara village near the Bangladesh border in West Bengal’s Nadia district.
The four arrested Bangladeshi nationals have been identified as Kamal Halsana (21), Ripon Biswas (24) hailing from Chaudanga district and Bhabesh Halder (38) Mohammad Ripanuddin (24) hailing from Jhenaidah district.
The arrests were carried out by 113 Battalion of the BSF. The BSF personnel acting on intelligence inputs raided the house of Bhawananda Halder, an Indian national where four Bangladeshi nationals had taken shelter.
Those arrested have been handed over to the local police.
During the year so far, the BSF has apprehended 146 Bangladeshi smugglers from the South Bengal Frontier.
