Russia to give Iran $5 billion loan for infrastructure projects

MOSCOW: A representative of the Russian Ministry of Energy has said that the government is considering an application from Tehran for a loan of $5 billion.

It is planned that the money will be spent on infrastructure projects.

“The Russian side is considering an Iranian bid for a loan of $5 billion for the construction of Russian companies, infrastructure, transport facilities, and other exploration projects,’’ the representative said.

Yesterday the Minister of Energy Alexander Novak visited Iran, where he met with the ministers of energy, oil and communications.

A co-chair of the intergovernmental Russian-Iranian commission on trade-economic cooperation, Mahmoud Vaezi, also reported that $5 billion could be allocated by Russia and Iran jointly.
