BANGKOK: The Customs Department has met with the Department of Fisheries to discuss problems found in the Thai fishery sector. An MOU will be signed by them to improve the sector’s traceability requirements.
Director-General of the Customs Department Kulit Sombatsiri chaired the meeting which set guidelines for revision to customs regulations on illegal, unreported and uncontrolled fishing before the MOU between the two departments is signed. Mr.Kulit said they would exchange and connect information for the MOU about traceability measures for the fishing industry.

The two departments will meet again on 2 November 2015 to set up measures on inspection of fishing vessels, control of produce transfer, production inspection and exports.
There are officers of the Customs Department working in committees inspecting illegal workers. The committees have the Command Center for Combatting Illegal Fishing as an operation unit in tackling illegal labor in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Labor and relevant units.
