WASHINGTON: Ready-to-be-launched M versions of BMW’s SUVs are being dubbed as hottest-of-the-hot family haulers.
BMW’s X5 M and X6 M’s top speed is limited to 155 miles per hour. Zero to 60 mph times are about 4 seconds. The X5 M is squared off in back while the X6 M has more a sleek, coupe-style roofline. The pair have 3% more power. It’s based around the M TwinPower Turbo V-8 in both, with twin-scroll turbochargers, cross-bank exhaust manifolds and direct injection, the 4.4-liter V-8 produces 567 horsepower. The all-wheel-drive vehicles come with eight-speed automatic transmissions.
Even though they are more powerful, they will get better fuel economy. The crossovers slurp 20% less gas. But they won’t come cheap. The 2015 BMW X5 M will go for $99,650 and the X6 M will start at $103,050, including the $950 destination fee. They arrive next spring.
