82,327 unemployed in Spain in Oct

MADRID: The number of people registered as unemployed in Spain increased by 82,327 from September to October, according to data published Tuesday by Spain’s Ministry of Employment.

The total number of unemployed people stood at 4.17 million in October, marking a 2.01 percent increase compared with a month earlier. There was a 7.74 percent fall in unemployment compared with the same month a year earlier.

Unemployment increased in all sectors except construction, where it fell by 3,835 people. Unemployment rose by 2,906 in the industry sector, by 21,595 people in agriculture and by 61,072 in the services sector.

Spain’s Minister of Employment Fatima Banez said: “October has always been a bad month for employment” adding that this year “it has risen less than the average.”

She said Spain’s economy was in fact growing “by 3.4 percent and employment by 3.2 percent. It is a very social, inclusive and intense employment recovery.”
