TOKYO: Tokyo stocks have closed 1.3 per cent higher as Japan Post shares skyrocketed in their long-awaited debut after an $US11.5 billion ($A15.99 billion) initial public offering, the biggest so far this year.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 index at the Tokyo Stock Exchange advanced 243.67 points to 18,926.91.
The Topix index of all first-section shares climbed 0.88 per cent, or 13.46 points, to 1,540.43.
