LONDON: The International Space Station (ISS) has already celebrated its 15 years of continuous profession ever since November 2, 2000. Around 17 nations and 20 individuals have gone up to the space station and come back.
America was the first one to send its astronauts to the ISS, followed by Russia and third one to take the position was Canada and Japan. If we see according to the duration rankings, at least one American and one Russian stayed on the space station for about 15 years. For the very first time in ISS history a British astronomer is going to visit the space station. Tim Peake, British astronaut is going to spend six months in the space to bring out certain experiments.
ISS revolves the Earth’s orbit at about 17,150 miles per hour at distance of 240 miles beyond the planet’s atmosphere. At times, the manned satellite is visible through the naked eye due to its closeness to the Earth.
From the starting of the space station, it had only three rooms. But with the time ISS has now 13 rooms and now weighs 450 tons of its present mass structure.
Commander Scott Kelly mentioned that the most vital experiment conducted at the space station is maintaining the survival of humans in outer space. ISS has taken about a total of 189 spacewalks, and the 190th will supposedly take place on November 6 for outpost preservation.
