LAHORE: Onion exports have increased nearly twofold in the ongoing year as product worth at least USD 220 million has been exported.
Pakistan has produced record onion yield in 2015. On the other hand, relatively lower production in neighbouring India has benefited Pakistan a lot. Demand for Pakistan-produced onions has increased in the international market.
Pakistan’s export total has reached above five lac ton. The food product price has hit USD 400 per ton in the international market.
The importing countries include Indonesia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and United Arab Emirates (UAE). In local markets, onion is being sold at Rs 40 to Rs 50.
