PARIS: Official details of the 2016 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid have been shared with us today, including the price and expected fuel economy.

New for 2016 is the hybrid variant of the Toyota’s compact crossover, and unlike the gasoline models, this gas-electric vehicle comes standard with all-wheel drive. The most affordable model you can get in is the XLE trimmed model, which costs $29,270 after destination, while a fully loaded RAV4 Hybrid Limited comes in at $34,510. These represent just a $700 difference over similar trimmed, all-wheel drive gasoline RAV4s.

Hybrid models have also been rated by the EPA, earning 34 MPG in the city, 31 MPG on the highway, and 31 MPG combined. This represents a 12 MPG increase in city mileage over the gasoline mode, two more MPGs on the highway or eight MPG combined.

The RAV4 Hybrid is powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, that’s paired to a high-torque electric motor and a nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) hybrid battery pack. Total horsepower is 194 hp, while total torque is 206 lb-ft. It adds up to help the RAV4 Hybrid hit 60 MPH in 8.1 seconds, a whole second faster than the gasoline model.

The 2016 RAV4 is one of the first vehicles in Toyota’s lineup to get its Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) suite of technology. Standard on the top-of-the-line Limited trim levels, and available on XLE models, TSS includes a forward collision warning system with automatic braking, lane departure warning system, automatic high beams, pedestrian pre-sollision System and dynamic radar cruise control.

The Hybrid system takes up just 2.8 cubic-feet of storage space, and all RAV4 models come with two years of complimentary Toyota Care Service.
