KOTA KINABALU: Some RM30,000 worth of contraband cigarettes were seized by the marine police during a raid on a jetty about 30km from the east coast town of Sandakan.
Also seized during the 4.30am raid on Sunday was a four-wheel-drive vehicle worth RM70,000.
Sabah Marine Police commander Asst Comm Mohamad Madun said officers aboard a patrol vessel saw several men loading goods onto the vehicle at the jetty in Sungai Padas. One man was detained.
Checks showed that 7,500 packets of Philippine-made cigarettes had been loaded onto the vehicle.
