HOUSTON: US melamine imports for September were down by 41% from the same month a year ago, according to data made available this week by the US International Trade commission (ITC).
The decline was the result of imports being eliminated from Trinidad and Tobago and China, according to the data.
The two countries shipped a total of 1,559 tonnes of melamine to the US in September 2014, but that figure dropped to zero in September 2015 as a result of high duties imposed against them as part of US anti-dumping investigations.
Month on month, imports fell by 11% in September, the ITC said. Year to date, imports fell by 36% in September.
Cornerstone Chemical is the only producer of melamine in the US.
