Punjab Govt allocates Rs 60 billion to make Sialkot a model district

SIALKOT: District Coordination Officer (DCO) Sialkot Dr Asif Tufail has said that the Punjab government has declared Sialkot as a model district of the Punjab besides, allocating Rs 60 billion special development funds for the socio-economic and human development of Sialkot.

He stated this while addressing a meeting of the Sialkot exporters held at the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI). SCCI President Maj (r) Mansur Ahmed and SVP Muhammad Sarfraz Butt were also present on the occasion.

Dr Tufail  said that sewerage and underground water supply lines would be replaced with new ones to resolve Sialkot’s decades old sewerage and potable drinking water issues.

He said that this mega development package would change the fate of the Sialkot, as the Punjab government was making Sialkot a model developed district through its beautification and uplift, following the global industrial significance of the city.

DCO unveiled several development project for the uplift and beautification of Sialkot , saying that the Punjab government has also approved a mega project of establishing direly needed fly over in Sialkot city’s congested Sublime Chowk, as the feasibility of this project had already been completed by the NESPAK. DCO added that Rs.5.6 million was being spent on the repairing and renovation of the Anwaar Club Auditorium Sialkot for providing the better social services to the local people.

The DCO urged the Sialkot exporters to come forward and adopt the government schools and wards in the government hospitals in Sialkot for providing better education to the students and better medical and health cover to the people at local level.

He highly hailed the unique export culture of Sialkot. DCO narrated that the government was fully aware of the business community’s problems and was making all out sincere efforts to solve their problems amicably on top priority. DCO Sialkot Dr. Asif Tufail termed Sialkot as jewel into the national economy, saying that Sialkot was an engine for boosting the national economy. He highly hailed the unique export culture of Sialkot.

While addressing the meeting, President Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) Maj (Rtd) Mansur Ahmed stressed the need of establishing the strong relations between the district administration and Sialkot business community for ensuring the hurdle-free socio-economic and human development of Sialkot. SCCI President revealed that Sialkot exporters had been playing their pivotal role in strengthening the national economy by boosting their exports.

He said that the exporters of Sialkot are the “Roaming Ambassadors of Pakistan”, who travel all around the world to fetch business and with their personal efforts, the export earnings of Sialkot stand at US $ 2 billion annually, besides, playing a pivotal role in strengthening the national economy and boosting the national exports as well.

SCCI President said revealed that the Sialkot exporters have set the unique examples of self help by completing several mega projects and establishing Sialkot International Airport on self help basis. He added that the Sialkot has become a role model for the developing world, advising others to replicate it.
