TALLINN: In the meantime, imports in September were down 9% on year and 5% in three quarters compared to the same period a year ago. The trade deficit was 146 million euros.
The biggest decrease in exports was related to electrical equipment that decreased by 79 million euros. At the same time, electrical equipment makes up 19 percent of Estonia’s total exports.
The top export market of Estonia was Sweden (18% of Estonia’s total exports), followed by Finland (17%) and Latvia (11%). Exports to Sweden fell 18% year on year, while exports to Russia were down 51%.
Exports to Russia decreased mainly due to a decrease in the exports of raw materials and products of the chemical industry, and mechanical appliances. Exports to Sweden decreased mainly due to a decrease in the exports of electrical equipment.
The main import partnes were Finland (14% of Estonia’s total imports), Germany (12%) and Lithuania (10%).
