RTO-III launches crackdown against tax evaders‏

KARACHI: The Regional Tax Office (RTO-III) has initiated legal framework against massive tax evasion and tax fraud, Customs Today learnt here.

The sources told Customs Today that Commissioner Imtiaz Ali Solangi of Zone III of RTO III Karachi has started preparing a list of taxpayers involved in tax crimes.

Sources said that the prosecution is being started in two sectors, plastic and electronic, in which revenue shortfall has been observed as compare to the last tax year.

Approval for lodging First Information Report (FIRs) has been delegated to the level of Chief Commissioner / Commissioner under the minutes of the meeting of the Chief Commissioner conference which were circulated vide letter no (photo): 1(2) Member-IR(North)/2012/139574 dated 24-10-2012.

Prosecution against non filers of income tax returns is also being initiated under Income Tax Ordinance 2001. Sources added that these strict measures are being taken due to poor performance of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) in revenue collection during the first quarter of financial year. A dedicated team comprising on officers of good repute of IRS is being constituted to perform this task.
