Firstly, for iOS and web, users can now avail themselves of audio recording in OneNote.

Redmond is doubling down on its OneNote note-taking app. Yesterday Microsoft announced a major new upgrade for the app. The latest versions contain a number of new features for a variety of devices, including iOS and Android updates, that will begin rolling out in the next couple weeks. OneNote is also now optimized for the iPad Pro, in case you have Apple’s latest gadget. Big multi-tasker? There’s a badge for that: introducing OneNote badge for Android.

Finally OneNote for iOS has gotten an upgrade in the form of Force Touch for iPhone 6S/6. This is already available on Android and desktop, so Microsoft is just bringing the feature to the remaining platforms. Think of Badge as you would a Facebook Chat Head. Now you can easily browse the web and write down your quick thoughts or copy/paste without having to move between apps, helping you to stay focused.

Android users will also be able to take notes from nearly any application on their Android devices thanks to the addition of a OneNote badge, that can be accessed from within any application to quickly jot down new notes whilst browsing the Internet, watching videos or carrying out other tasks. To launch the badge, users have to open the notification tray and tap the OneNote badge notification. This is really a no-brainer and probably should have been there from the start. You can now use a stronger press on the OneNote icon on your home screen to pull up a menu that allows you to directly create a new note, take a new photo or view recent notes.

Neither app is capable of linking notes to a position in the text, something that is a key feature of both the Mac and Windows desktop apps.

Microsoft Research has more than 1,100 scientists and engineers on computing in multiple research areas in 13 research labs around the world.
