More than a pound of meth was discovered within the underclothes of a Peoria, Ariz., woman at the Morley crossing.
More than 10 pounds of meth was seized on Nov. 8 by officers at the DeConcini crossing in Nogales, Ariz.
Three Arizona women were arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle drugs across the border in separate incidents, and in every case, a canine officer found the drugs.
First, at the Morley crossing on Friday, a Customs and Border Protection canine detected drugs in a woman’s undergarments.
CBP officers said Margaret Kathleen Riordan, 43, of Peoria, was concealing more than a pound of meth worth $3,100.
Later that same day, at the Dennis DeConcini crossing another canine detected drugs in a woman’s car. Officers found 25 pounds of cocaine and 7 pounds of meth hidden inside the car’s quarter panels. Together, those drugs have a street value of $282,000.
The car’s driver, Yesika Maria Leyva-Paloma, 34, of Tucson, is now facing charges.
Also at the DeConcini crossing, CBP officers arrested a third woman after they found more than 10 pounds of meth inside the back seats of her KIA sedan on Sunday.
Patricia Sanchez, 34, of Phoenix, was arrested and, once again, a canine sniffed out the drugs.
