LUCKNOW: Four alleged cattle smugglers were nabbed by Vibhuti Khand police on Saturday and 37 buffaloes were rescued. Cops booked the accused, who were using a mini truck to ferry buffaloes illegally, under Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
The men arrested have been identified as Shane Alam, Inamul, Faheem and Bhura. The group told police during questioning that they stole cattle from various districts and smuggled them for slaughter. According to police, the truck was coming from Azamgarh and had entered the city limits from Gosainganj area.
The group wanted to take the cattle to Moradabad but were intercepted en route. A commuter who noticed that some of the buffaloes were badly injured alerted police control room. When cops checked the truck, they found the cattle in a poor state. Station officer of Vibhuti Khand police station said, “The accused men first tried to bribe our constables. The cattle would be given to an NGO or a shed.”
