2nd phase of LB polls: CM suspends farmers package in 12 districts

LAHORE: In the wake of second phase of local bodies’ elections, Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif has temporarily suspended Prime Minister’s Farmers Relief Package in 12 districts.

A Punjab government spokesman said that the implementation of farmers’ package has been stopped till the holding of local bodies’ elections to be held on November 19 in 12 districts. This action has been taken for transparent conduct of local bodies’ elections, he added.

Meanwhile, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar Monday chaired a meeting of senior officials of Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Industries, Ministry of National Food Security and Ministry of Commerce to review the implementation status of the Farmers’ Package.

The meeting expressed satisfaction on the effective and prompt implementation of the package throughout the country. The finance minister, while appreciating efforts of the officials concerned in implementation of the package, said that the momentum must be maintained in future as well and it should be ensured that the farmers fully avail benefits of the package.

The finance minister on this occasion added the government attached great importance to the well being of the farmers’ community and would take all measures to facilitate them.

Secretary Finance, Dr Waqar Masood, Governor State Bank of Pakistan, Ashraf Mahmood Wathra, Deputy Governor State Bank Saeed Ahmed, Chairman SECP, Zafarul Haq Hijazi, President Zarai Tariqqiati Bank, Talat Mahmood and other senior officials of the Ministry of Finance attended the meeting.
