Growers given free fertilizers, low-price vegetable seeds

MULTAN: On the special directives of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, the Punjab government has provided free fertilizers and pesticides besides vegetables seeds at low price to farmers for cultivation of vegetables at 687 demonstration plots in the province.

Exactly 312 open field plots and 375 tunnel farms were being cultivated for potato, tomato, onion, chili and garlic and quality seed of these vegetables was provided to farmers in cooperation with Punjab Seed Corporation (PSC), says a release issued by media liaison unit of Punjab agriculture department on Tuesday.

Under this project meant to enhance vegetables production, an awareness campaign has been launched targeting each village to inform farmers how they can increase their vegetables production to earn good profits.

Agriculture department would also hold farmers day programmes at all these demonstration plots to inform farmers about latest vegetables production technology.

Moreover, 23000 plastic crates will be provided to farmers at a price offering 80 per cent subsidy to enable them transport vegetables in proper packing from farm to the market.

Production contest would also be held and those who would show higher production of potato, tomato, garlic, chili and onion would get prizes, the release concluded.
