MUSCAT: An Omani trade delegation paid a visit to Iran’s city of Qazvin, located 150 kilometer northwest of Tehran, to explore tourism investment opportunities.

Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicraft Organization (CHTHO) signed an agreement with Oman’s Ministry of Tourism to boost bilateral ties on Monday.

Following the agreement, the delegation travelled to Qazvin to get acquainted with the city’s cultural heritage and its potentialities in the field of tourism.

The delegation paid a visit to the Qajar era Sa’d al-Saltaneh historical complex, the head of Qazvin’s Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicraft Department Mohammad-Ali Hazrati announced in a press release on Wednesday.

“The delegation discussed investment in different fields of tourism with Qazvin officials and mayor,” he announced.

Qazvin is known as the calligraphy capital of Iran. It is also famous for its carpet patterns.

Shah Tahmasp (1524–1576) made Qazvin the capital of the Safavid empire (founded in 1501 AD), a status that Qazvin retained for half a century until Shah Abbas I moved the capital to Isfahan in 1598.

Chehel sotoun, Ali Qapu, Sardar Mofakham Edifice, old police headquarters, Aminiha Hosseiniyeh, old Tehran Gate and Qazvin Grand Hotel are other historical sites of the city.
