Malaysian police confiscate 410 boxes of smuggled fireworks

JOHOR BARU: Police found 410 boxes of smuggled fireworks hidden inside a room at a snooker outlet in Taman Bukit Daya, here early today.

The 12.15am raid conducted by 12 officers from Pelangi Indah police station lead to the discovery of the fireworks, worth more than RM240,000 at the snooker centre in Jalan Denai 2.

Johor Baru Selatan district police chief Assistant Commissioner Sulaiman Salleh said the seizure was so large that police had to use three lorries to cart away the fireworks. “During the raid, police found the illegal goods stored inside a locked room next to the toilet,” he said.

He said the case was being investigated under Section 8 of the Explosive Act 1957 for possession of unlawful explosives material.
