Indian police arrest three culprits with drugs

NEW DELHI: A gang that had been routing drugs to the capital from neighbouring states was busted with the arrest of three people on Wednesday. Huge quantities of charas and heroin estimated to be worth Rs 35 lakh were also seized.

Police said the accused persons have been identified as Dinesh (30), Vinod Kumar (42) and Mushtaq Ahmad (32).

Dinesh and Vinod were arrested after police recieved information that the two men would come to deliver a huge consignment of charas in a Toyota Innova at Wazirabad Road on Wednesday afternoon.

“A team was formed under the supervision of additional CP Alok Kumar and a trap was laid near Gagan Cinema in Nand Nagri. Around 4pm, Dinesh and Vinod were spotted in the area and subsequently nabbed. Five kilograms of fine quality charas was seized from them. The value of the drugs is estimated to be Rs 25 lakh,” said Ravindra Yadav, joint CP (crime).

A second trap was laid after police officers were tipped-off about a large quantity of heroin being brought to the capital from Budaun in UP. Sources told police the suspect would be near the exit gates at Anand Vihar ISBT with the consignment. “Mushtaq Ahmad was arrested and 125g of fine quality heroin was seized from him. The market value of the drugs is around Rs 10 lakh,” Yadav said.

During interrogation, the accused told police that they used to source the drugs from Badaun in Uttar Pradesh as well as from remote areas in Uttarakhand.

All three have been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and further investigations are on, police said.
