China imports 315,738m tons of wheat in Oct 2015

BEIJING: China imported 315,738 mt of wheat in October, 52.8% more than in September, with the majority coming from the United States and Australia, while corn imports of 42,877 mt were the lowest this year, according to data released Monday by China Customs.

China’s wheat imports for the month included 172,636 mt of durum wheat and 143,102 mt of other grades. The US was the leading shipper of wheat to China for October deliveries, with 214,927 mt, with Australian coming second at 71,927 mt. Next were Canada with 26,740 mt, and Kazakhstan with 2,145 mt.

For corn, China’s imports were 72% lower than in September, and below the previous 2015 low of 50,557 mt in March. Overland imports from Laos were the single largest contributor, amounting to 28,644 mt, while Bulgaria was the largest seaborne shipper with 7,204 mt.

Meanwhile China imported 998,367 mt of barley in October, down 22.9% from September. October imports of sorghum totaled 681,868 mt, 36.7% less than September. Dried distillers’ grain imports amounted to 660,193 mt for October, 29.3% less than in September.
