Sindh Revenue Board to upgrade computerized system to enhance performance: Tashfeen Niaz

KARACHI: Sindh Revenue Board Chairman Tashfeen Niaz has said that his department collected a tax revenue of Rs 14.87 billion during the first quarter of the current fiscal year while  the board was assigned revenue target of Rs 15.25 billion.

He told this during his exclusive interview with Customs Today. Tashfeen Niaz said that these collection figures show that the taxpayers are cooperating with the department. He said the board has already asked the Sindh government to create a separate department to collect taxes.

He said that the Sindh government collected a revenue of Rs 15 billion during three month of current fiscal year i.e. July, August, September. Answering a question, Tashfeen Niaz said that we are trying our best to upgrade our computerized system as this will enhance our performance. He said state-of-the-art computerized system will pave way to deposit taxes online.

He said Sindh government decides to reduce the percentage on sales tax which is now stood at 15%. He said we are facing problems because of some legal hurdles. He informed this scribe that recently World Bank bears all the expenses of those SRB employees who went abroad to get training.

Tashfeen Niaz said that SRB suspended the registration of many clearing sales because they were involved in sales tax evasion including Akram Associates and NR Enterprises. He clarified that according to Sales Tax Act 2010 we are legally authorized to suspended registration of any firm who found involved in tax evasion willfully.

He said we are trying our best to achieve our yearly revenue target and we are working on different strategies in this regard. He said we are quite optimistic that we will definitely achieve the desired results.
