TOKYO: Tokyo stocks fell in early trading Wednesday amid heightened geopolitical tensions in the Middle East following Turkey’s downing of a Russian fighter jet the previous day.
In the first 15 minutes of trading, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average fell 85.66 points, or 0.43 percent, from Tuesday to 19,839.23. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 8.62 points, or 0.54 percent, at 1,597.32.
