NEW YORK: U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Industrial Transportation and Automobiles & Parts sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.46%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Glencore PLC (L:GLEN), which rose 3.94% or 3.5600 points to trade at 93.9800 at the close. Meanwhile, Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (L:RR) added 3.34% or 19.00 points to end at 588.00 and Intertek Group PLC (L:ITRK) was up 3.25% or 84.00 points to 2665.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Burberry Group PLC (L:BRBY), which fell 5.01% or 63.000 points to trade at 1195.000 at the close. International Consolidated Airlines Group SA (L:ICAG) declined 3.26% or 18.50 points to end at 549.50 and Whitbread PLC (L:WTB) was down 3.17% or 141.00 points to 4306.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1488 to 624 and 433 ended unchanged.
Shares in Burberry Group PLC (L:BRBY) fell to 3-years lows; losing 5.01% or 63.000 to 1195.000. Shares in Whitbread PLC (L:WTB) fell to 52-week lows; losing 3.17% or 141.00 to 4306.00.
Gold for December delivery was up 0.85% or 9.10 to $1075.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 3.40% or 1.42 to hit $43.17 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 3.36% or 1.50 to trade at $46.34 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.37% to 1.5068, while EUR/GBP rose 0.75% to 0.7075.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.27% at 99.57.
