Malaysia police seize 10.2kg syabu worth RM2mil

KUALA LUMPUR: Police arrested a Nigerian and a Guinea national and confiscated RM2 million worth of syabu hidden inside 10 Segway in Kajang here the other day.

Narcotics Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said upon receiving tip-off, police pulled over a car driven by a Republic De Guinee national. “Upon checking, police found 10.2kg of drugs believed to be syabu stashed in ten Segway in the vehicle,” he said.

The 37-year-old man was arrested for further investigation. Following the arrest, police raided a house in Teman Sepakat Indah and nabbed a 35-year-old Nigerian believed to be his accomplice. Checks revealed the drugs were imported from China and meant for local distribution.

Meanwhile, Mokhtar said police seized drugs worth RM227 million from January to Nov 22 this year. A total of 164,650 individuals were arrested between January and Nov 20 for distributing, in possession or tested positive for drugs. Mokhtar added police nab 6,293 foreigners for drugs related offences.

He said a total of 130 Nigerians including three Republic De Guinee nationals were arrested for drugs related offences between Jan and Nov. When asked how many per cent nabbed possess student visas, Mokhtar said at least 50 per cent of those arrested are on student visas.
