Singapore’s CNB seizes 2kg of cannabis worth S$66,000

SINGAPORE: A local drug syndicate was busted after Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) officers conducted an operation on Thursday . Cannabis weighing 2kg and worth around S$66,000 was also seized.

According to the press release issued on Friday, officers were deployed at Tuas on Thursday to obtain information on a drug syndicate believed to be receiving a fresh consignment of drugs. They observed a 19-year-old drug accomplice meeting with a 48-year-old Malaysian lorry driver.

After their meeting, the teen visited the hideout at Tampines Street 22, where the officers raided and arrested a 30-year-old Singaporean male. The cannabis was recovered from the rubbish chute at the ground floor building, CNB said.

The lorry driver was arrested at Woodlands Checkpoint and another suspected drug accomplice, a 21-year-old female Malaysian, was also picked up in the vicinity of the syndicate leader’s hideout, it added.

Investigations into the four suspects’ activities are ongoing, and those convicted of trafficking in more than 500g of cannabis may face the death penalty, said CNB.
