Indian police seize 1400 kg of ganja worth Rs. 70 lakh

KOHIMA: Kohima Police personnel recovered 1400 kg of ganja from an LPG tanker near Viswema village on November 27. The contraband is worth Rs. 70 lakh in the national market, according to a release from PRO, Kohima Police.

The PRO informed that on November 27 around 6:35 pm, the Kohima Police personnel manning Khuzama inter-state check gate during routine checking of vehicles noticed an unusual movement of the LPG carrier B/R No. MN-03T-1094 escorted by the armed 109 CRPF Battalion. When the tanker was asked to stop at Khuzama inter-state check gate, it sped away, the release said.

However, after a hot pursuit, the LPG bullet tanker was intercepted near Viswema village in Kohima. During preliminary enquiry, the driver of the vehicle disclosed that the said vehicle was carrying contraband ganja.

Based on his statement, the vault of the LPG bullet tanker was unbolted and the Police recovered the ganja, which was found wrapped in 70 packets weighting 20 kilos each, the release informed.

The driver of the vehicle identified as Khuraijam Denesh Singh (42) of West Imphal, Manipur was taken into police custody and the vehicle was seized along with the ganja.

Meanwhile, a regular case vide Khuzama PS Case No. 0048/15 U/S 20 (b)(ii) (c) NDPS Act was registered against the driver for conducting further investigation.
