Surgical goods, medical instruments exports increases by 4.38% to $116m

ISLAMABAD: Exports of medical goods and surgical instruments from the country registered growth of 4.38 percent during first four months of current financial year as compared to corresponding period of last year.

During the period from July-October, 2015 country earned $115.956 million by exporting the medical goods and surgical instruments as compared to the exports of $111.088 million of same period of last year, said the data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.

However, during the period under review, exports of cutlery goods decreased by 5.55 percent as it came down from $28.620 million of last financial year to $27.33 million current financial year.

Exports of onyx manufactured grew by 16.88 percent in first four months of current financial year as about 1,108 metric tons of the commodity exported and earned $3.71 million.

The exports of onyx manufactured was recorded at 1.025 metric tons valuing $2.632 million during the first four months of last financial year, the data revelled. Meanwhile, the exports of chemicals and pharma products registered decreasing trend of 12.72 percent as it went down from $339.222 million to $296.83 million during period under review.

During July-October, pharmaceutical products witnessed 1.78 percent increase and reached at 3,749 metric tons worth US$68.027 million as compared to 5,546 metric tons valuing of 66.838 million of same period of last financial year, it added.

On month on month basis, exports of surgical goods and medical instruments grew by 13.84 percent in October, 2015 as compared to same month of last financial year.

In October, 2015 surgical goods worth $34.916 million exported as compared to exports of $30.671 million of same period of last year, the data revealed. During last month, cutlery exports increased by 5.88 percent onyx by 60.31 percent and fertilizers by zero percent, the data added.
