NEW YORK: U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Electrical, Banking and Household Goods & Home Construction sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.64% to hit a new 1-month high.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Barclays PLC (L:BARC), which rose 4.62% or 10.3000 points to trade at 233.5000 at the close. Meanwhile, Tui AG (L:TUIT) added 3.36% or 37.00 points to end at 1139.00 and Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC (L:RBS) was up 3.24% or 9.800 points to 312.200 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Weir Group PLC (L:WEIR), which fell 3.74% or 45.00 points to trade at 1157.00 at the close. Glencore PLC (L:GLEN) declined 2.31% or 2.2300 points to end at 94.4800 and Sage Group PLC (L:SGE) was down 1.71% or 10.00 points to 576.50.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1264 to 859 and 417 ended unchanged.
Gold for February delivery was down 0.06% or 0.60 to $1064.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.31% or 0.13 to hit $41.52 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 0.48% or 0.21 to trade at $44.40 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.09% to 1.5071, while EUR/GBP rose 0.33% to 0.7043.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.29% at 99.97.
