KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday quashed two FIRs against four customs officers and lawyers when it was informed that the two sides had reached an agreement.
A single bench of the LHC comprising Justice Sallahuddin Panhwar quashed the FIRs on the basis of settlement arrived at between the parties. In October, a group of lawyers had clashed with the customs officers after they tried to arrest accused Imran Khan, a clearing forwarding agent from the Customs Court.
The police had registered the case at Preedy police station on the complaint of Advocate Ejaz Hussain Soomro against the customs officials accusing them of manhandling the lawyers on the premises of the Customs Court.
Pakistan Customs’ I&P Branch’s officers, Aijaz Ahmed Khoso, Akbar Ahmed Khan, Syed Azhar Mehdi and Zubair were nominated in the case. The officers were further accused of threatening and beating up the complainant and tearing his clothes.
Ejaz said that despite being granted bail, the customs officials tried to arrest his client. When he and other lawyers tried to save him, the officials thrashed them.
However, the customs officers had also lodged the case against the complainant and other lawyers for threatening and obstructing them from performing their duties. They stated that they arrested the suspect who was required in other cases.
