DUBLIN: More than 4,000 bottles of counterfeit vodka have been discovered at a premises in Co Louth.
The operation, described by a garda spokesman as a “large scale illegal vodka bottle-labelling and stamping plant”, was uncovered by gardaí and Revenue customs officers on Tuesday night.
The bottles of vodka, false labels and UK tax stamps were found during the raid which the spokesman said was part of a “joint agency operation focused on combating organised criminality in the Louth area”
Seven vehicles, three cars and four trucks, were seized at the plant along with some €7,000 in cash.
“The vehicles were seized by Revenue officers for mineral oil tax offences,” the spokesman added.
Seven people, four living in the North and three in the Republic, were at the scene at the time and were detained and questioned by gardaí but no arrests were made.
The investigation is ongoing, the garda spokesman added.
